Looking for new members!

Cowlitz County Dive Rescue is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization that is and donation driven and we are looking for new members!

Our members are trained for diving rescues/recoveries, swift water rescues/recoveries and as surface support. Specialized public safety training is done both by the Dive Rescue team as well as outside training agencies.


Divers respond to in-water emergencies such as:

  • Vehicles in the water
  • Missing persons in the water
  • Evidence recovery from waterways
  • Drowning victim recovery

Each diver acts as a self-sufficient rescuer / searcher with a backup diver in a 100% ready state in case any issues arise of the primary diver requires additional equipment.

Diver Requirements:

  • Self-supplied SCUBA diving gear
  • Valid SCUBA certification with at least 12 logged dives
  • Strong swim skills

Swift Water Rescuers

Swift Water Rescue Techicians work at the waters’ edge and on the water surface, including:

  • Flood evacuation
  • Occupant rescue from vehicles in the water
  • Stranded tuber / rafter in swift water

Swift Water Requirements:

  • Ability to move up and down riverbanks up to 45’ angle using a guide rope
  • Strong swim skills

Surface Support

Surface support is the eyes and ears of the team members while they are in the water. They facilitate communications by radio or line signals, help with equipment, operate watercraft, set up rope systems and provide safety for the team.

Surface Support Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Good communication skills
  • Good swim skills

Other team activities include:

  • Public education events including school assemblies and information booths at local events
  • Fundraising drives to raise money for team training and equipment
