A great effort by Cowlitz, Clark and Skamania counties ended in the recovery of the swimmer that went missing on Saturday. The initial search on Saturday was limited by the amount of available divers in the local area and was extended to Sunday.

With our resources limited by unavailable divers, we were very grateful for the six divers sent by Skamania County and the two boats and boat operators sent by Clark County.

On Saturday, May 17, 2014, the Department of Emergency Management and the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Department coordinated a mock mission to provide an opportunity for our local volunteer groups to experience a large-scale search and rescue mission.

Among the groups working with DEM and CCSD were Cowlitz Dive Rescue, Cowlitz County Search and Rescue, Civil Air Patrol, and Cowlitz County Auxiliary Communications Service. The Kelso Masonic Lodge provided food for the teams at the end of the day.

We have just received a donation from Search and Rescue Charities in Washington. This will help the team with our operating expenses and gear maintenance so that we can continue to serve the local area during water-related emergencies.

    Thank you!
